This support group was set up to help Ukrainian refugees who have sought sanctuary in the Alnwick area. After staying in homes offered by local sponsors during the first year of the war in Ukraine, around 20 families or individuals are now living independently in this area. Most are also working to support themselves or in full time education.
Here are some of the needs the Support Group aims to address:
Support for hosts – including advice on hosts:guest matching services, information/experience sharing, etc. Some may need help with the visa application process or other form-filling
Collecting information/advice to share with hosts and guests – e.g. access to Education, GPs, English language teaching, etc
Assisting with special needs, emergencies, etc
Community links and social events
Communication - including a Facebook group and dedicated WhatsApp groups
