Is Christmas too commercial?
Many people feel that Christmas has become frantic, commercial and disconnected from the things that truly matter. Two in three people in the UK think so, according to a recent poll from The Children’s Society. Half of the adults surveyed say they enjoy or would take part in festive traditions such as a Christingle, which shows a longing for community-centred traditions. Check out the list of local church events, where such festive traditions live on and a warm welcome awaits!
Beneath the glittering lights and bustling shops lies a deeper meaning that transcends commercialism: the real essence of Christmas, celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ, of whom it is said "The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us". (John's Gospel 1:14).
